Awele | Specialist Psychotherapist

Introduction

I have been working as a psychotherapist since 2010 and I have plenty of experience working with people with a variety of anxiety-based conditions such as fears, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, etc.

Sometimes my clients have experienced anxiety for so long that they do not see a positive way forward; they have come to therapy as a last resort - sometimes after seeking prior therapy, sometimes they are attending therapy for the first time.

Anxiety can be described as a fear of what will happen in the future. A person experiencing anxiety typically has a very vivid imagination which they use against themselves. It's like their lives become something of a battle ground, and their world can become smaller and smaller and more limited.

These fears/ phobias can manifest in a variety of ways e.g. home based rituals such as checking the cooker/ door locks, bathroom routines, etc - these can become more and more elaborate, time consuming and distressing - which in turn restricts quality of life. Anxiety can also manifest in fear of the future e.g. fear of dying, fear of failing, fear of being alone, etc.

Sometimes a client may not have yet realised they are experiencing anxiety or anxious responses: perhaps they have developed a tick, or they are smoking more/ using substances more, or even losing sleep/ or sleeping more (when they did not used to).
So as you read this, does any of the above resonate? Perhaps somethings do, but you are unsure of other things mentioned above. If so, you are welcome to get in touch for a 20 minute complimentary consultation.

How I work
I utilise Neurolinguistic therapy:
(Neuro) I focus on how you are using your mind in processing your experiences. How are you making meaning of your situation?
(Linguistic) How you are processing is reflected in your use of language - we work to bring awareness of how you ae talking to yourself and how this is impacting the anxiety symptoms you experience.

I work with you to utilise corrective language that can help you be kinder and more compassionate with yourself. I also help you access the underlying beliefs that are fuelling your actions/ behaviours and symptoms.

I work with you in a holistic way: mind body and spirit - I encourage self-care routines, breathing and grounding techniques and other ways to help you regulate your nervous system.

Initially when you first start therapy, you may feel hopeless or disempowered by your predicament, but I work closely with you to build hope and faith that you can be alleviated from the anxiety symptoms you experience, and find freedom again/ or even for the first time.
I have worked with a variety of people experiencing a range of anxiety conditions. Do get in touch. I offer an initial complimentary consultation to determine if I can work with you. This also gives you the opportunity to meet me and ask questions so you can see if you would like to work with me too.

If I feel you require an alternative approach we will discuss this.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Online therapy

Typically, I use teams, or whatsapp video for online sessions. However I can be flexible.
I ask that you have a private space for therapy sessions.
Each session is 50 minutes long. It is useful if you log on 10 minutes before the session to account for any possible technical problems. As a back-up, we typcially use whatsapp video or a phone call if there are any internet / technical difficulties.
