Jason | Integrative Hypnotherapist

Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy Nottingham

Hi, I'm Jason. I've been helping people work through anxiety, fear, panic and phobias for over 22 years—and I understand how exhausting it is to live with fear that won't let go.

Perhaps you've been avoiding situations for months or years. Maybe panic strikes without warning, or a specific phobia has shrunk your world smaller than it should be. You might have tried to push through, to "just get over it," but the fear keeps coming back.

You're not broken, and this isn't a sign of weakness. Anxiety and fear are learned responses—and what's been learned can be unlearned.

How I Can Help

I work with adults struggling with:

Anxiety and panic
Chronic worry, generalised anxiety, panic attacks, health anxiety, overwhelming "what if" thoughts

Phobias
Social phobia, fear of flying, driving phobia, claustrophobia, specific fears (animals, objects, situations), emetophobia

Fear-based patterns
Avoidance behaviours, hypervigilance, feeling on edge, safety-seeking behaviours that have taken over your life

The beliefs underneath
"I'm not safe," "Something terrible will happen," "I' can't cope"—the deeper beliefs that keep fear active

Many people I work with have been managing these struggles for years. They've often tried talking therapies or been told to "face their fears" in ways that felt too overwhelming. If that sounds familiar, you're in the right place.

My Approach

I use hypnotherapy combined with integrative psychotherapy—which means we work with both your symptoms and what's driving them underneath.

Hypnotherapy is particularly effective for anxiety and phobias because it works directly with the part of your mind where fear responses are stored. This allows us to update patterns that your logical mind knows don't make sense, but your emotional mind still reacts to.

We also address the beliefs fuelling the fear—those deep-down convictions like "I'm not safe" or "I can't handle this" that formed earlier in life and are still running in the background.

What makes this different:

  • You don't have to force yourself through things that terrify you. We work at a pace that feels manageable.
  • You stay in control. You're fully aware throughout, and we only go as deep as feels right for you.
  • It's practical, not just theoretical. We aim for tangible shifts in how you feel and what you can do.
  • It addresses the root, not just the symptoms. For people wanting meaningful change.

What to Expect

Sessions are calm, structured, and focused on helping you feel steadier. There's no judgment here—whatever you're struggling with, whatever you've been avoiding, it makes complete sense given what your nervous system has learned.

We begin by understanding what's happening for you now and what you'd like to change. From there, we work systematically to reduce the grip fear has on your life—helping your mind and body learn that you're safer than they currently believe.

Most clients find the process surprisingly comfortable and are often surprised by how quickly things begin to shift.

Sessions:

Can be in person (Nottingham/Derbyshire), or online.

A Bit About Me

I've worked in this field for nearly 23 years and have specialised training in anxiety, trauma, and fear-based difficulties. I was also Principal and Lead Tutor at a long-established Hypnotherapy Training School for 17 years, where I trained other therapists in working with anxiety and phobias.

But more importantly—I know what it's like to feel stuck in fear. My own first experience with hypnotherapy was working through a long-standing fear of flying. That experience showed me how effective this work can be when fear feels immovable, and it's shaped how I've approached this work ever since.

I work from a place of genuine understanding, not just professional training.

Next Steps

If you'd like to explore whether this approach might help, I offer a free initial consultation—either by phone, Zoom, or in person.

It's a straightforward conversation. No pressure, no obligation. Just a chance to talk through what's going on and see if we're a good fit.

Online therapy

Online Therapy — Work From Wherever You Feel Safe

For many people dealing with anxiety, fear, or phobias, the thought of travelling to a therapy appointment—navigating traffic, sitting in a waiting room, being somewhere unfamiliar—adds an extra layer of stress before the session has even begun. Online therapy removes that entirely.

I offer online sessions primarily via Zoom—secure, reliable, and straightforward to use. If you'd prefer a different platform, I'm happy to discuss alternatives, provided confidentiality and connection quality can be maintained.

How It Works

We meet at an agreed time using a private link. You're in your own space—comfortable, familiar, and in control. The session is focused and confidential, and works in much the same way as meeting in person. All you need is a quiet, private space, a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and headphones if you'd like added privacy. That's it. No commute, no waiting room, no unfamiliar environment to navigate.

Why Online Works Particularly Well for Anxiety and Phobias

Being in your own home isn't just convenient—for anxiety and phobia work, it can actually be an advantage. The focus of our work is on your internal experience: your thoughts, feelings, nervous system responses, and the beliefs driving them. Your physical location matters far less than your sense of safety and comfort—and for many people, that's easier to find at home. There's no travel stress or anticipatory anxiety before sessions, the work feels contained and manageable from the start, and hypnotherapy and deeper therapeutic approaches can translate very well online, as the focus is entirely on your awareness and internal responses. Many clients find online sessions just as effective—sometimes more so—than face-to-face work, particularly when anxiety or avoidance makes leaving home difficult.

Confidentiality and Professionalism

All online sessions are conducted to the same professional and ethical standards as in-person work—with full attention to confidentiality, appropriate boundaries, and your safety and comfort throughout.

Specialisations and Expertises

My specialist area is working with adults whose lives are being limited by anxiety, panic, fear responses, and phobias. This includes everything from specific phobias and panic attacks to chronic worry, avoidance patterns, and the deeper beliefs that keep fear active long after the original cause has passed.

Over nearly 23 years in practice I've worked extensively with anxiety in all its forms—and I understand both how these patterns become established and, more importantly, how they can genuinely shift.

My Approach

I combine hypnotherapy with integrative psychotherapy and trauma-informed methods, which means the work addresses both the immediate symptoms of anxiety and what's driving them underneath. This isn't surface-level management—it's working with the part of your mind where fear responses are actually stored, allowing more lasting change to take place.

Common areas of focus include panic responses and fear of losing control, specific phobias and situational fears, social and performance anxiety, health anxiety, avoidance behaviours that have gradually narrowed life choices, and the underlying beliefs that fuel fear—such as "I'm not safe" or "I can't cope."

About Phobias and Fear Responses

Phobias and conditioned fear reactions are learned patterns rather than fixed conditions or character flaws. With a careful, structured, and supportive approach, most people find that change is more accessible than they expected—without needing to force themselves through experiences that feel overwhelming. Hypnotherapy is particularly well-suited to this work because it addresses fear where it lives, rather than simply trying to manage it at a conscious level.

Number of Sessions

This genuinely varies depending on the nature and history of the issue, and I think it's important to be straightforward about that rather than offer a one-size-fits-all answer.

Some clients with a specific, contained phobia begin to notice significant change within 3–6 sessions. Others with longer-standing anxiety patterns, avoidance behaviours, or more complex histories benefit from a more in-depth piece of work over a longer period. Progress is reviewed regularly so we can adjust the approach as needed—and you're never locked into a fixed number of sessions.

What I can say with confidence is that most clients notice meaningful shifts earlier than they expected.

Most common issues I support people with:

  1. Panic and panic attacks Sudden, overwhelming waves of fear accompanied by physical symptoms—racing heart, breathlessness, dizziness, a sense of losing control. Panic can feel terrifying and unpredictable, and often leads to a fear of the panic itself. The work focuses on helping your mind and body develop a genuine sense of safety, breaking the cycle that keeps panic returning.
  2. Anxiety and chronic worry Persistent tension, overthinking, restlessness, and a constant sense of being on edge. General anxiety can quietly erode sleep, confidence, and daily functioning over time—often so gradually that it starts to feel normal. It isn't, and it doesn't have to stay that way.
  3. Phobias and specific fears Fear of flying, driving, medical or dental procedures, social situations, confined spaces, animals, or other specific triggers. Phobias are learned responses—which means they can be unlearned. Hypnotherapy is particularly well-suited to this work because it addresses fear at the level where it's stored, rather than just managing it consciously.
  4. Fear-based avoidance When anxiety or fear leads to avoiding situations, places, or experiences, life can gradually shrink. What starts as one avoided situation can quietly grow into a much larger pattern of restriction. Therapy supports you in gently expanding what feels possible again—at a pace that feels manageable, not overwhelming.
  5. The beliefs driving the fear Beneath most anxiety and phobias sit deep-rooted beliefs: "I'm not safe," "I can't cope," "Something bad is going to happen." These beliefs often formed earlier in life and continue to fuel fear responses long after the original experience has passed. Addressing these underlying patterns is often what makes the difference between temporary relief and lasting change.
